Deutscher Verein was founded
Deutscher Verein was founded as the second Social Men’s Club after the Union Club with the objective to provide a platform for the intellectual, cultural and social life of Germans and Americans of German ancestry living in the area of New York City.
During the first years, the meetings took place at Delmonico House, 76 Broad Street. A growing membership base and the rapid expansion of New York City were the reasons for several changes of location during the years to follow.

In 1891, Deutscher Verein moved to it’s own Club House on 112 Central Park South where it developed a very active club life. Membership grew to 350, and the Verein gained reputation and acclaim for its outstanding events. As a consequence or the difficult political and economic circumstances during World War I, however, Deutscher Verein ceased all activities temporarily, and the club house was abandoned for a few years.
